Our research and our online services are based mainly on well established, high quality, large sample household surveys conducted by the Bureau of the Census and several other organizations that provide survey microdata in the public domain. We also make extensive use of the Census Bureau's state and national population estimates and projections and the Bureau of Economic Analysis's personal income series for states and metropolitan areas.

One very valuable data source that is not well known is the Internal Revenue Service's Statistics of Income sample of federal tax returns. This data source allows analysis of virtually all tax form items based on a sample of about 50,000 tax returns. The file is released annually. We have had conducted extensive research using these files.
